2017-2018 School Year
Welcome to Mrs. Lee's Math class.
Parents, please fill out the information form below, after reading the class procedures/expectations. With your help, we can guide your child to succeed this year. Parent/Student/Teacher communication is the key to student success. This is why I use an internet-based grading system called Jupiter Grades. It allows you and your child to access their current grade in my class daily. Please email me if you are not able to login to Jupiter Grades. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through e-mail at [email protected] or you may call me at the school (818) 654-3300.
I look forward to working with you and
seeing your child succeed.

Class Procedures
The classroom procedures are in addition to the procedures set by Portola Middle School. Please refer to the school procedures posted in the classroom if necessary.
1) You are expected to be in your assigned seat and both mentally and physically prepared to work by the time the tardy bell rings to be on time. Tardies will affect the cooperation grade.
2) You are expected to work hard and be respectful.
3) The student is expected to bring all necessary supplies to class everyday.
This will affect your Work Habits grade.
4) Please do not use your cell phones in class.
5) There is no food permitted in class. (only water)
6) Please wait for the teacher to dismiss you from class...not the bell. :)
Consequences:
1) verbal warning 2) phone call/e-mail to parents 3) parent/student/teacher conference 4) dean referral

Assignments/homework is a way for you to learn more by extending the work that was begun during class time. It could also be a review of material previously learned, an introduction to new ideas for later follow-up in class, or a chance to reflect on ideas discussed in class. Assignments must be completed each evening and brought to class the next day to receive credit.
Quizzes (20% of final grade)
Quizzes will be given throughout a chapter.
Quizzes will consist of fewer concepts and questions than a Chapter Test.
Tests (60% of final grade)
Tests will be given at the end of each chapter.
DO NOT WAIT to come in the morning on the day of a quiz/test to tell me that you do not understand the information! Come in as needed...it is much easier to get a little help often, than learn many concepts at one time.
**Students are able to retake 2 tests/quizzes every 20 week grading period. Students must complete a "Request to Retest" Form. Students will "retest" before school, at lunch time or after school during tutoring/HW help.**
(I'm not sure what day this will be this semester-I will email everyone through jupiter once I know.)
*If absent, students must make up the quiz the day they return before school or at lunch time.*
Assignments (20% of final grade)
- classwork - homework - projects - activities - lab inquires - math notebook -
Assignments are given regularly and will be posted on this website. Students must always write down their homework in their agenda during class. Homework will be checked everyday in class but collected for a grade in a packet before each chapter test.
When collected...I will be looking for corrections that should be made during class time.
Each homework assignment will be worth 2 points.
2 points:
Complete and ALL work is shown.
1 point:
Mostly complete and ALL work is shown for the problems that have been completed.
0 points:
Not complete and no work shown.
/ slash:
Does Not Have at All
Group activities/lab inquiries, projects and math notebooks will be graded differently than the homework assignments.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check this website for that days agenda. If there was a handout for that day, please see me before school or at the beginning of class.
Cheating Policy
Cheating of any kind on quizzes, tests or homework will result in ZERO credit for ALL parties involved. It is the students responsibility to prevent others from copying them.
No make-ups will be offered to those caught.
Late Work
Late work will be accepted for half credit!
If absent you will receive one day to make up the work for full credit.
Extra Help
I am available before school or at lunch for tutoring. Please let me know in advance that you will be coming in to make sure I am available that day.
I will inform everyone about the after school tutoring schedule when the program starts.
Substitute Teacher
If a student is ever written up for blatant disregard for classroom rules with a substitute teacher, that student will automatically receive a "U" in Cooperation on the next report card. For these reasons, students will have to be "extra cooperative" when Mrs. Lee is absent.
Cooperation Grade
A student’s Cooperation grade is earned through mature and respectful interactions with the teacher and other students. Problems with excessive talking or cheating on assignments, among other things, will negatively affect a student’s Cooperation grade.
E = Excellent
Student has been tardy 0 - 1 time
Student shows Excellent behavior (e.g. raises hand to speak, starts assignments readily, eager to learn)
S = Satisfactory
Student has been tardy 2 times
Student shows Satisfactory behavior (e.g. sometime talks, sometimes ready to learn)
U = Unsatisfactory
Student has been tardy 3 or more times
Student shows Unsatisfactory behavior (e.g. talks too much, gets out of seat without permission, disruptive)
Work Habits Grade
Grade will be determined by percentage earned in the assignments category.
88% or above E 87% – 75% S 74% and below U
Class Grading Scale (by percentage %)
100% - 90 = A 89.9 - 80 = B 79.9 - 70 = C 69.9 - 58 = D 57.9 - below = F
